Information about the city

The well-named ‘Ile-Rousse’ (Red Island)

The city distinguishes itself by its warm atmosphere. Roam around and fall in love with its local sounds: the music of the sea, the church bells and the malicious squabbles between ‘boule’ players.

Along the streets of the old town or on the Place Paoli, you can quietly savour a coffee in the shade of the Plane trees and listen to/by the sound of joyful conversation. Don’t hesitate to pass by the indoor market, you will be filled both by its animated atmosphere & their delicious local specialties. No where else will you see the lobster rub shoulders with the charcuterie; and the raisin flirting with the oil of Immortelle essence.

Have a chat with the infamous Gregoire as he always has an interesting little anecdote to share 😉

And why not bring back the legendary Corsican cheese to share with your friends ?

At dusk, the Paoline city (named for its illustrious founder Pascal Paoli in 1758) promises to take you on a mindblowing journey. What’s the secret ?

Stroll towards the iles and admire the sunset, its ochre colours create a unique experience, and only a stone’s throw away from the town centre, to not be missed !

The Pietra’s islands

The enchanting Isles of Pietra are emblematic and distinguished by its porphyry rock that is red in colour and is made up of multiple parts that each have a name. You will also hop from the island of Sciotta to the Red island (A Petra), via the island of Piana or the island of U Brocciu.

They’re joined to the little bay of Ile Rousse by a bridge since the XIX century.
This heritage site will embark you on the path to History with Neolithic vestiges and a Genoese Tower.

The interest in protecting our natural heritage sites, largely owned by the Coastal Conservatory, are undergoing a restoration and preservation project.
