Between Calvi and Galeria, the winding road leading to the castle “Prince Pierre Napoleon” runs alongside and stretches along monumental pink granite cliffs.

Built between 1852 and 1854 by some 300 men, the castle was the home and refuge of Pierre-Napoléon Bonaparte, nephew of Napoléon I and cousin of Napoléon III. We climb up the dirt track that runs alongside young vines amidst the island’s vegetation. At an altitude of almost 200 metres, we stop in front of a fantastic cirque between sea and scrubland.

To the south-west, we see the sea and the majestic Scandola reserve. Below, a linear procession of vegetation and rock punctuated by the perfect plantings of the vineyards; and to the east, the imposing Argentella mining site.
